14 Day Car Rental Tour

14 days tour South Africa

No fear of left-hand traffic. You get used to it very quickly and a tour with the rental car is no problem. Experience beautiful landscapes and exciting adventures! As a self-driver, you can place your stops where you like and are independent.

On request, we will book accommodations for you on the way and give you tips for the trip. With a bit of a thirst for adventure, you have a wonderful journey that you will not soon forget! For an appropriate preparation of the trip, we recommend a travel guide with appropriate maps.

Who would like to have the travel guide in his own language, should get him already in his country.

Travel suggestion:

1. Day:  Johannesburg – Pretoria (60 km).

Take over Car Rental at the Airport in Johannesburg and short drive to Pretoria. Overnight in Pretoria.

2. Day: Pretoria – Ohrigstad ( 350 km).

The journey then continues eastwards through an impressive landscape Lowveld. Overnight in Ohrigstad.

3. Day: Ohrigstad – Krüger NP (240km).

Although the route is a bit longer, we recommend the southern route from Ohrigstad to the Orpen Gate of the Kruger National Park. Worth seeing on the route are the Mac Mac Falls and Pilgrim’s Rest, a former gold mining town. Arrived in Kruger National Park you should start your first game drive in a rental car. Overnight in the Kruger National Park.

4. Day:  Krüger NP (100 km).

After breakfast you drive with your car to the next safari. Dont forget to keep enough films or pack fully charged batteries, so you can picture the big five. Overnight in the Kruger Nationalpark.

5. Day:  Krüger NP – Blyde River Canyon – Sabie   (160 km).

At Orpen Gate, leave Kruger National Park and continue on the Abel Erasmus Pass; Here you have a great view of the Blyde River Canyon with the Three Rondavels, Bourke’s Luck Potholes and God’s Window. You will be impressed! Overnight in Sabie or surroundings.

6. Day:  Sabie – Ghost Mountain (440 km).

Today we continue through the small kingdom of Swaziland. Enjoy a panoramic drive south. Overnight Ghost Mountain.

7. Day:  Ghost Mountain – Shakaland (200 km).

If you want to see black and white rhinos, you should definitely visit the Hluhluwe Umfolozi National Park. (Personally, I find it even more beautiful than the Kruger National Park). Also worth seeing is the crocodile farm and the lake area of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park. If you do not want to miss the village tour with traditional dances and singing in Shakaland, you should be there at 4 pm. Overnight in Shakaland.

8. DAY:  Shakaland – Durban (170 km).

Continue to Durban on the Indian Ocean. The strech between Durban und Port Elisabeth is long and there are not really special sights on the route. Therefore, we recommend a flight to Port Elizabeth (PE) to have time for more interesting areas. Overnight in Durban.

9. DAY:  Durban – Port Elizabeth – Knysna           ( 270 km).

After breakfast, drop off the rental car at Durban airport. From there by domestic flight to Port Elizabeth (exclusive). In Port Elisabeth takeover of the new Rental Car. On the Garden Route the journey continues to Knysna. A miniature of the waterfront in Cape Town. You will like the little town. 2 nights at Knysna.

10. Day:  Knysna

Stroll through the small town of Knysna and enjoy fresh fish or oysters on the waterfront. Afterwards we recommend a boat tour on the lagoon. Overnight in Knysna.

11. DAY:  Knysna – Oudtshoorn (125 km).

Today we drive on over Wilderness (worth a detour) to George. Via the Outeniqua Pass you come to Oudtshoorn, famous for its ostrich farms. Also worth seeing are the Cango Caves. Overnight in Oudshorn.

12. Day: Oudtshoorn – Somerset West ( 450 km).

Interested in the cute meerkats? Then it’s time to get up early. Continue on Route 62 to Ladysmith, Montagu and Worcester to Somerset West. We recommend a visit to one of the famous wineries Vergelegen or Lourensford for wine tasting or a visit to the restaurants. 2 nights in Somerset West Amberley Sleep & Travel.

13. Day:  Stellenbosch ( 20 km).

oday it goes into the only 15 km away Stellenbosch. Especially the old Cape Dutch houses are worth seeing, and the Dorp Museum. Continue to Paarl or Franschhoek. Whether wineries or a visit to one of the many farms (cheese and olives, berries, etc.) you should definitely plan. Also interesting is the Lion Sanctuary wildlife enclosure.

14. Day:  Somerset West – Kapstadt (30 km).

In less than half an hour you are at the airport. Then return the rental car. Or you extend the trip and look at the region around
Cape Town for a few more days.
Definitely a visit to the famous
Table Mountain, Table Mountain, a coastal tour, visit to the penguins, the Cape of Good Hope, a visit to Camps Bay and and and ….
